Green Bay Packers linebacker Nick Perry will have surgery on his hand, but with the situation, there’s no reason to be overly alarmed about it.

On Thursday it was announced that Green Bay Packers linebacker Nick Perry would undergo surgery on his hand. Although surgery never sounds like a promising situation, Perry shouldn’t miss much time, and it shouldn’t hurt his production.

Last season, Perry missed two games for the Packers when he had surgery on his left hand. The linebacker needed screws put in a few broken fingers. When he returned, he didn’t skip a beat, recording three sacks over his last two games.

Now we have a similar situation this season. Although we don’t know the hand, it appears the injury isn’t as severe, only messing with one finger. Due to this, the recovery time shouldn’t be long, possibly two week like last time, or even less. With that in mind, this surgery sounds a lot worse than it actually is.

More from Green Bay Packers

Perry’s ability to return and play well after the surgery last season should be a good sign for Packers fans.

While he’s out, however, Packers fans still shouldn’t be too worried. Losing a player of Perry’s caliber is never a good thing. With that being said, Green Bay has very underrated depth at the linebacker position, and should be able to make up for his absence.

Of course, there’s Clay Matthews, who picked up 1.5 sacks on Sunday. Then there’s Blake Martinez and Joe Thomas. Both showed a great deal of potential last season, and both seemed prepared to take on even bigger responsibilities. The Packers have even more depth thanks to players like Kyler Fackrell and Ahmad Brooks.

With the names the Packers have on their roster already, the loss of Perry is softened a bit. The main reason this surgery shouldn’t concern fans though is the recovery time. It’s something that Nick Perry can go out there and play with a cast on shortly after. As he proved last season, it’s not going to slow him down.
