It didn’t take long for the Green Bay Packers to show off some of that fantastic depth of their receiver corps in 2017, a promising sign for the offense.

It’s not good news for any team when they’re without their No. 1 receiver. The Green Bay Packers aren’t an exception to that rule. They do, however, have the roster to make it much less of a problem than most other teams. In Week 2, that’s exactly what they did with their phenomenal depth at receiver.

The Packers lost Jordy Nelson early in their Week 2 contest against the Atlanta Falcons. In fact, Nelson left the game before even getting a target. This didn’t seem to hurt their passing attack too much though, as a few receivers stepped up big time.

It was no secret the Packers have great depth when it comes to pass catchers. However, the extent to just how good the depth is wasn’t exactly clear until Sunday.

More from Green Bay Packers

With Nelson out, multiple targets picked up the slack. Davante Adams bounced back from a poor Week 1 performance to grab eight catches for 99 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Randall Cobb built on a strong Week 1 with six more catches for 60 yards. Then there was Geronimo Allison, who caught his first three passes of the year, picking up 24 yards.

It’s not just receivers that help the passing game though. Tight end Martellus Bennett is still getting acclimated to the Green Bay offense. That didn’t stop him from picking up five catches for 47 yards himself. One of the biggest weapons in the passing game has proven to be Ty Montgomery. The running back picked up 75 yards and a touchdown on six receptions on Sunday.

Although losing Nelson hurts, it’s clear the Packers have enough weapons to make due without him. Despite the loss, it’s hard not to feel good about the depth Green Bay showed in Week 2.
