The New York Giants faced the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Sept 24 in Week 3. Here are the highlights from the game.

In Week 3 of the 2017 NFL season, the New York Giants traveled to Philadelphia to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. It had been a tough start to the year for the Giants, falling in Week 1 to the Dallas Cowboys and then losing again in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. One significant aspect of their 0-2 start is their offensive line. They had done a terrible job protecting quarterback Eli Manning, and it has hurt their passing game.

Coming out of the gate, it looked like the Giants offensive struggles were going to continue. Even when Eagles head coach Doug Pederson made a puzzling decision to go for it on fourth down and New York stuffed them, the G-Men couldn’t capitalize. Philadelphia’s defense looked solid. Though it wasn’t pretty, Carson Wentz and the offense were moving the ball relatively well. A LeGarrette Blount touchdown in the second quarter was all the scoring in the first half.

In the third quarter, the Eagles offense was again the only one functioning in this game. They added another touchdown with a Zach Ertz catch from Wentz, going up 14-0 and seemingly having things secured. Then came the fourth quarter.

With the Philly defense getting banged up in a bad way, losing the likes of Fletcher Cox, Eli Manning and the Giants offense came to life. It started with a nice touchdown pass to a still-alive Odell Beckham Jr. Then the Eagles shot themselves in the foot as Ertz fumbled on the first play of the next drive. That set up an absurd one-handed touchdown grab by OBJ to tie things up.

Now reeling, the Philadelphia offense was unable to make anything happen on the next drive, though they didn’t turn it over. However, their defense let them down in a big way. Sterling Shepard made an intermediate catch and then took off for a massive touchdown catch to take the lead. Somehow, the Eagles pulled it together to score on the next drive, with rookie Corey Clement finding paydirt.

The teams then traded field goals, Philadelphia kicking one late to tie it back up. The Giants were then forced to punt with 38 seconds left, seemingly not enough time for Philly. However, with the ball at their own 38-yard line, Wentz came up huge with a big throw to the sideline caught by Alshon Jeffery. Rookie Jake Elliott then came out and whipped in a monster 61-yard field goal for the shocking win.
