The Seattle Seahawks faced the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Sept. 24 in Week 3 of the 2017 NFL season. Here are the highlights from the game.

Most would agree that the 2017 season didn’t start out as the Seattle Seahawks would’ve hoped. In their opening matchup with the Packers, they took a bad-looking loss. They then needed a late touchdown to get over the 49ers a week ago. If they were going to turn it around and start looking better, they’d have their work cut out for them as they faced the Tennessee Titans in Week 3.

As most games featuring the Seahawks do, this one in Nashville started out as a slugfest. The first four drives for each team to begin the game all came up empty and ended with punts. That’s when the Titans got the ball for the fifth time in the contest and made a little bit happen.

Marcus Mariota threw an interception the drive, but it was nullified thanks to an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Richard Sherman. As such, the Titans offense stayed alive and Eric Decker came to life. It looked as if he and his new quarterback connected for a big touchdown, but that too was nulllified thanks to a holding call. Penalties backed them up further, and they were unable to get into the end zone, but got on the scoreboard.

Following another stop by the Tennessee defense, Mariota and company again drove down the field. This drive happened to feature an absolutely uncalled for and dangerous hit on the quarterback by Sherman. That started a huge scuffle between him, Sheldon Richardson, Taylor Lewan and Quinton Spain. Mariota was fine, thankfully. And he then moved the ball into position for another field goal.

After scoring just one touchdown in nine previous quarters, the Seahawks offense finally came to life. Russell Wilson got it started with a bomb to Doug Baldwin down the left sideline. C.J. Prosise then got them in very close with a nice little scamper before Wilson found Baldwin at the pylon for the score to take the lead. However, the Titans added another field goal before the half to take a 9-7 lead into the locker room.

Pete Carroll must have lit a fire beneath his team in the locker room, because they came out firing. The Seahawks drove 75 yards methodically over nine players. Once in the red zone, Wilson found breakout rookie running back Chris Carson, who danced in for a 10-yard touchdown to take the lead. Unfortunately, their defense didn’t respond.

Mariota and the Titans quickly responded to take back the lead as Rishard Matthews took a reception 55 yards to the house, making a ton of defenders miss along the way. Tennessee then kept pouring it on after that, getting a big stop and then scoring on another big play, this one a 24-yard pass to rookie tight end Jonnu Smith. It kept going too, as the Titans got another stop and then needed just one DeMarco Murray 75-yard run to go up 30-14.

Seattle finally stopped the bleeding with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Wilson to Luke Willson, but then failed on the two-point conversion. The defense also failed to keep Tennessee from getting points as they notched another field goal. The Titans then forced a turnover on downs on the next drive, but got nothing going when they got the ball back, thus giving the Seahawks another shot to mount a late comeback.

Indeed, Wilson kept a big statistical day going as he drove and found Paul Richardson from eight yards out to make it 33-27. However, they didn’t recover the onside kick. Still, they had a chance to get one quick shot with stops, which they got. But with Tennessee about to punt, they self-destructed and were called for a penalty, giving the Titans a first down and sealing the big win.

The Titans looked for real in beating the Jaguars a week ago, the same of which can’t be said for the Seahawks in their win over the Niners. Having said that, there is still a lot of growth and learning to do with both teams. It’ll be interesting to see how things play out on Sunday in Nashville.
