Round 2: Nick Chubb, RB — Georgia

The running game is another area of weakness for the Jets, and with their second round pick they try and address that spot. Currently they feature veteran back Matt Forte as their starter and Bilal Powell as a receiving/change of pace back. After a good season in 2016, Powell is off to a slow start in 2017 with less than three-yards per carry at the moment. Forte struggled in his first season with New York, and while he’s been more effective in 2017, he hasn’t been the guy we remember from his days in Chicago.

In order for their starting quarterback to survive as a rookie, the so-so performances of these two guys won’t cut it. To ensure Darnold won’t be flying solo the Jets go out and get him a potential game changer at running back in Georgia’s Nick Chubb with their first of two picks in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

A 225-pound back who missed most of 2015 with a knee injury, Chubb is lighting things up again in 2017. After season in which he hit 1,130 yards and eight touchdowns while “easing his way back,” Chubb now has six touchdowns and 371 yards through the first four games. He’s averaging 6.3. yards per carry, which is right in line with his 6.4 career average.

Chubb is a bruising back that gets stronger as the game goes on. He should be the next in a long line of great SEC backs to make his mark on the NFL.
