2018 NFL Draft: New York Jets 7-round mock draft in September
By Randy Gurzi
Round 5: Michael Deiter, C — Wisconsin
In the fifth round the Jets just keep looking for depth at spots of weakness. Here they grab Wisconsin center/tackle Michael Dieter. The 6-6, 300-pound offensive lineman has played just about every position for the Badgers and looks to be a solid player no matter where he lines up. Wisconsin is a school known for producing good offensive linemen, and the Jets try to capitalize with one here.
Round 5 (via Dallas): Heath Harding, CB — Miami (OH)
Here the Jets again get a second pick, this time for trading their 2017 sixth-round selection to the Dallas Cowboys who selected Louisiana Tech safety Xavier Woods — not to be confused with the WWE Superstar of the same name.
With the selection they look at Miami of Ohio, where they grab cornerback Heath Harding. He missed all but three games in 2015, which led to him getting a medical redshirt. The 5-10, 190-pound Harding was able to come back last season and show he can play. He was credited with 67 tackles and four picks, giving him nine career interceptions.
He lacks ideal height, and plays against lesser talent, but is worth a shot as the later rounds start to roll around. The Jets need pieces here and Harding has tools to work with.
