Round 7: Filipo Mokofisi, DT — Utah

The final pick for the New York Jets in this 2018 NFL Mock Draft goes to Utah defensive tackle Filipo Mokofisi. He often is overshadowed by his teammate, Lowell Lotulelei, but Mokofisi is no slouch at all. It’s easy to forget about him, though, as Lotulelei is a big name not just for his own play, but for being the younger brother of Star Lotulelei of the Carolina Panthers. Despite the shadow lined up next to him, teams may take a long, hard look at Mokofisi.

At 295 pounds, he has enough size to play at any position on the Jets three-man line, although he would be best suited as a run-stuffing defensive end for them. It won’t be easy to get snaps when teamed up with some of the talent New York has on that spot, but a breakout season in 2016 gives hope this young man could do so.

After a couple average seasons for the Utes, Mokofisi recorded 45 tackles, eight of which went for a loss and five sacks. So far in 2017 he has seven tackles, one sack and his first career interception. Making the roster as a seventh rounder won’t be easy, but the Jets try to unearth a gem with this player.
