Green Bay Packers: More to come from Geronimo Allison?
By Hunter Noll
Geronimo Allison was a critical factor in the Green Bay Packers’ win over the Bengals, but is he done just yet?
The Green Bay Packers pulled off a strong comeback win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3. The surprising hero of the day on the offensive side of the ball was wide receiver Geronimo Allison. Was this just a flash in the pan, or was it a sign of things to come? Could it be both? In such a complicated situation, yes, it could be.
Allison entered last week with just 24 yards receiving on the season. In fact, he had only 226 yards in his entire career. The Packers wide receiver would see a bigger role that week due to a diminished receiver corps.
He took major advantage of his increased playing time. The 23-year old posted career-highs catches (6) and yards (122). Meanwhile, he tied a career-high with one touchdown reception and set a new mark for long (72 yards). What does this breakout performance mean, though?

Allison has always been considered an interesting prospect, but there’s really no room for him at the moment. With that in mind, it’s hard to assume Allison’s going to continue to produce at such a high clip. That doesn’t mean he’ll completely disappear, though.
The Packers already boast Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams on their roster. Of course, you can’t forget about Randall Cobb either. With those three on the team, there’s an obvious hierarchy when it comes to receivers. That fourth spot shouldn’t be anyones to grab anymore though.
Allison has the size of a prototype receiver as he stands at 6-3. He’s also athletic, and has shown good hands. His breakout performance only furthers the idea that he could be a great receiver in the NFL at some point in his career.

At this point though, he’s only going to be confined to certain games. He’s not ready to take over on a consistent basis, and that works out perfectly, as the Packers aren’t asking him to. Week 3 was an example of what could be for Geronimo Allison. Right now though, that’s all it is.
