Giants vs. Buccaneers: Highlights, game tracker and more
The New York Giants faced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Oct. 1 in Week 4 of the 2017 NFL season. Here are the highlights from the game.
In their second game of the season last week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were highly disappointing. After they came out in their opener like gangbusters, they were flat and got further flattened by the Vikings. They were looking to rebound as they welcomed the New York Giants to Raymond James Stadium in an odd Week 4 matchup.
It looked as if Jameis Winston and company were about to put a hurting on the Giants on Sunday afternoon. They came out of the gate and drove down the field for a touchdown pass to Mike Evans, going up 7-0. They then came up big on the ensuing defensive possession, forcing a turnover on downs. In two plays, they found paydirt again with rookie tight end O.J. Howard getting his first career touchdown.
Trailing 13-0 after the first quarter, Eli Manning and the Giants started to show some life in the second quarter. They capitalized on a missed field goal by the Bucs and kicked a field goal of their own. When they then stopped Tampa and forced a punt, they came up big when Manning dipped into a rarely seen part of his arsenal: rushing for a touchdown. That made it 16-10 at halftime in favor of Tampa as they did kick a field goal.
However, the Giants were able to get their running game jump started with rookie Wayne Gallman. he was able to move the ball and then punch it in to give New York the lead.
Things then got wild at the finish. When New York missed a field goal, it looked like Tampa had their window — but then they turned the ball over on downs. However, their defense stepped up and got a stop, allowing Winston to find Cameron Brate for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good, though.
New York answered though in a big way. Manning put together a 10-play drive and marched down the field before finding Rhett Ellison for the score. Their two-point conversion attempt also failed, though. With Tampa down only one, they got the ball back with 3:16 left. Winston put together a deep ball to Adam Humphries and then a few other nice plays to set up a field goal as time expired. From 34 yards out, Nick Folk drilled it and grabbed the win.
