The Oakland Raiders faced the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Oct. 1 in Week 4 of the 2017 NFL season. Here are the highlights from the game.

Two of the biggest rivals in the AFC West went toe-to-toe when the Oakland Raiders headed on the road to face the Denver Broncos. Each team came in with a 2-1 record, but had tough losses in Week 3 on the road.

Denver went up to western New York and dropped a game to the Buffalo Bills despite being the favorite. In that one the offense failed to keep moving the chains and the turnover bug caught up with quarterback Trevor Siemian just one week after throwing four touchdowns. The Raiders, however, lost on Sunday Night Football to the Redskins in embarrassing fashion.

Right from the coin toss, it was clear that the Broncos were going to cause Derek Carr and the Oakland offense problems. They forced them off the field quickly, then Trevor Siemian orchestrated a nice drive the culminated in a beautiful A.J. Derby touchdown grab. Denver also added a field goal to jump up 10-0 at home.

However, the Raiders then started to show a little bit of life in the second quarter. Carr started taking shots and found Johnny Holton for a 64-yard touchdown. That score and a solid effort from the Oakland defense made it 10-7 at halftime. Things would get bad for Oakland from there, however.

Not only did their offense not have any rhythm when they came back on the field, but their defense bent enough to allow two more field goals. To make matters worse, Carr took an awkward hit where his back was twisted, forcing him out and E.J. Manuel into the game. Though he led them to a fourth-quarter field goal, that was all she wrote.

To give credit, the Raiders defense stepped up and didn’t allow another point. But with Manuel at the helm, the offense just wasn’t right. That’s why it was fitting when the game effectively ended on a bad jump ball that was picked off by Justin Simmons.

The winner of this one can put their rival in a big hole in the AFC West while also keeping pace with the red-hot Chiefs. Either way, don’t expect the Raiders or Broncos to go anywhere no matter the result. Both are high caliber teams that will be in the playoff hunt.
