The New York Jets improved to 2-2 Sunday with a thrilling 23-20 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Here is a look at their report card.

The New York Jets are like butter — they’re on a roll.

Can you believe the Jets are now 2-2? New York is one of the biggest surprises of the young season after Chandler Catanzaro drilled a 41-yard field goal late in overtime to propel Gang Green to a 23-20 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday in East Rutherford. The Jags dipped to 2-2 with the loss.

This was a wild contest that featured long touchdown runs by Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire and an 81-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Jacksonville’s Myles Jack. The Jets blew a 20-10 fourth quarter lead and would have lost the game in overtime if the Jaguars weren’t so inept.

That’s okay, though. Gang Green will take the win and run with it. They’re now tied with the Patriots for second place in the AFC East. Who would have thunk it?

Their report card is in so let’s take a look:

Offense

New York’s offensive line was very Jekyll and Hyde. They performed very poorly in pass protection — Josh McCown was sacked five times — but they opened up some gaping holes for Powell and McGuire to run through. Powell rambled for a career-high 163 yards and scored on a 75-yard burst while McGuire added 93 yards on the ground, including a 69-yard touchdown run. The Jets compiled a season-high 256 yards rushing, their highest total since 2014. All told, they racked up 471 yards from scrimmage. Quite impressive.

McCown was steady for the most part (22-of-31, 224 yards) but he tossed a key interception at his own 35-yard line with 3:19 remaining in regulation that helped set up Jason Myers’ game-tying 22-yard field goal that forced overtime. The veteran signal-caller had a lost fumble and was under constant pressure throughout.

No wide receiver was outstanding, but Robby Anderson (three receptions for 59 yards) did have a 41-yard catch from McCown on a fly route. Powell added four receptions for 27 yards, but the rushing attack stole the spotlight in this one. Matt Forte (toe) was not missed. Powell and McGuire were quite a one-two punch in this contest.
