Special Teams

Catanzaro drilled three of his four field goal attempts, including the game-winner. However, he did miss a 45-yarder at the end of the first half that would have given New York a 13-10 halftime lead. He still makes you hold your breath. Punter Lac Edwards had a pair of poor punts, but made up for it with a booming 70-yarder in overtime that put the Jags in poor field position.

Edwards was also the main player in New York’s top special teams moment of the season. In punt formation on fourth-and-21, Edwards lofted a pass to cornerback Marcus Williams, who raced 30 yards to the Jacksonville 22 just before halftime. Catanzaro missed his 45-yard attempt there, though.

Catanzaro also did a nice job of consistently launching the ball deep into the end zone or out of the end zone on kickoffs. New York’s punt and kickoff coverages were solid.

Coaching

Todd Bowles had his team ready and motivated and showed some moxey on the fake punt pass by Edwards. He was not very aggressive though at the end of regulation when he just let time run out instead of running another play or two. When you play for overtime sometimes you lose in overtime. Things worked out for him on this day though.

The third-year Jets head coach and offensive coordinator John Morton devised a strong game plan with a nice mixture of run and pass. Bowles also did not let his team crumble after blowing a 10-point lead in the fourth stanza. His team is playing hard for him and they believe in themselves. The Jets have a very good chance to improve to 3-2 this coming Sunday when they travel to Cleveland to face the winless Browns. Now who expected that?
