The Washington Redskins fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in one of the best games of the young NFL season, and here are three takeaways for the Skins.

The Washington Redskins almost did the impossible on Monday night. The Redskins, 0-4 all-time at Arrowhead Stadium, went head-to-head with the Kansas City Chiefs, the NFL’s best team over the first month of the season. Unfortunately, the final minute proved to be a disastrous one and Washington limps away with a 2-2 record heading into a much-needed bye week after a 29-20 loss to Kansas City.

The Redskins dominated the first quarter and for the first 10 minutes of the second quarter. Then, with around five minutes remaining in the first quarter, Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith got the Chiefs moving. He hit Travis Kelce for a touchdown late in the first half to make it a 10-7 game. The Chiefs then got the ball back and were driving again until rookie kicker Harrison Butker missed his first career field-goal attempt before halftime.

The Chiefs got the ball to start the second half and made it a point to get rookie Kareem Hunt going. They did, to a certain extent. Washington’s defense did a good job of containing Hunt, even though he rushed for over 100 yards. He didn’t hurt the Redskins with big plays as he has done so frequently in his young NFL career.

There are no moral victories in the game of football. But on Monday night, in one of the toughest buildings in the NFL, the Washington Redskins proved they are a team on the rise.

Here are three takeaways from Kansas City’s win over the Redskins.
