Packers vs. Cowboys: Highlights, game tracker and more
By Randy Gurzi
The Green Bay Packers faced the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, October 8 in Week 5 of the 2017 NFL season. Here are highlights from the game.
It’s always a big game when the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys get together, which is exactly what we had on tap for Week 5 of the 2017 NFL season. These franchises met twice last year — once in the regular season and another time in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
Things looked like they were going to devolve into a shootout immediately in this game, as the Cowboys got the ball first and marched down the field Dak Prescott was fantastic on the drive and capped it off with a touchdown toss to Cole Beasley. However, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers answered quickly with a score of their own, a pass to Davante Adams. Mason Crosby, however, missed the extra point.
However, the Green Bay defense was unable to stop Prescott again. He pieced together another monster 75-yard drive, again finding Cole Beasley. The Dallas defense then came up with a big three-and-out stop that featured a big sack, and they responded with another touchdown, this one to Dez Bryant to pull ahead 21-6.
Of course, they gave Rodgers plenty of time and he made use of it. He went 13 plays for 75 yards in just over five minutes before rookie Aaron Jones dashed in from seven yards out. Dallas got the ball, but couldn’t find any life and went into the half up 21-12 as Crosby missed his second extra point.
Crosby made good, though, to start the second half. As the Dallas defense stepped up after letting the Packers drive down the field, Green Bay had to kick a field goal. However, the visiting team’s biggest play came in the form of stifling the Cowboys offense. As such, the Pack drove again, this time for 88 yards on 14 plays, before Rodgers found Adams again.
Dallas looked like they were finding their groove on offense again, but were stopped after moving 50 yards. Even still, Dan Bailey was automatic and converted the field goal. Meanwhile, the Cowboys defense showed life again, forcing a big three-and-out on the next drive.
However, that’s when Terrance Wlliams, forever a thorn in the side of Dallas fans, really put them in a bad spot. On a simple pass, he let it hit him in the hands and deflect into the air. The ball then ended in the clutches of Damarious Randall, who took it back for six points. After a missed two-point conversion, the Pack led, 28-24.
Prescott and the Boys then had a masterful drive. Despite getting the ball with about 10 minutes left, they ran it almost down to one minute left, going 17 plays and 79 yards, including a wild fourth-down conversion. Prescott ran it in himself from 11 yards out to cap it off and take the 35-31 lead.
Even a minute was too much time for Rodgers, though. He somehow ran nine plays and went 75 yards in just over a minute of game time. After missing Adams on one play, he went right back to the same call on the next play and found the receiver for the third score of the game with only 11 seconds remaining. The Cowboys got two deep shots, but were unable to get it done.
