The Baltimore Ravens faced the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, Oct, 8 in Week 5 of the 2017 NFL season. Here are highlights from the game.

Both the Baltimore Ravens and Oakland Raiders started out 2-0 and had each lost their last two games. Not only that, the Raiders also lost starting quarterback Derek Carr for the time being with a fractured bone in his back. While the belief is he won’t be gone too long, the downslide could get out of control with him sidelined.

That downslide seemed to start immediately. Joe Flacco and the Raiders offense started things with a shot down the field to Mike Wallace that was good for 52 yards. They then needed just four more plays before Vincent Mayle punched it into the end zone for six points from two yards out.

The Raiders then almost immediately began taking on water. EJ Manuel completed a pass to Jared Cook, but the tight end coughed up the football. As a result, Jimmy Smith picked it up and went to the house after 47 yards to put Baltimore up 14-0 in a flash. While Oakland added a field goal after a solid next drive, their defense couldn’t get it together. The Ravens marched down the field for a 15-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a Javorious Allen touchdown punch-in.

Oakland finally found the end zone when they got the ball back as Manuel found Michael Crabtree for a long touchdown. The hope was that they would start to show more life, but that wasn’t meant to be. Instead, the Ravens added another field goal and were up 24-10 going into halftime.

It was basically cruise control for Baltimore from that point forward. They allowed a Marshawn Lynch touchdown, but added two more field goals of their own to secure a needed and big victory on the road against the depleted Oakland side.

Without Carr in the fold, it’s hard to say what you should expect from this Oakland team. However, the Ravens have been anything but impressive as of late. As such, the Raiders coming away with a victory behind Manuel would’ve been a huge result for their playoff chances.
