Special Teams

Chandler Catanzaro has always had a strong leg. Accuracy was a huge issue for him last year with the Arizona Cardinals when he connected on just 75 percent of his field goal attempts. That’s why he is a member of the Jets now and they are glad he is after watching him drill a 57-yard field goal at the end of the first half to give New York a 3-0 halftime advantage. The Jets needed all the help they could muster on this day because their offense was so brutal.

Punter Lac Edwards had a solid outing with a 43.5 average on six boots, including one inside the 20. New York’s kickoff and punt coverage units were decent.

Coaching

The Jets came out flat as a pancake against a terrible team and that is head coach Todd Bowles’ fault. There is simply no excuse for that. The Jets were so fortunate to escape with a victory. Bowles has to prepare his team better — the Jets are not good enough to look past anyone.

His team finally showed a little urgency in the fourth quarter but they can’t afford to sleep walk against this week’s upcoming foe — the world champion Patriots. Luckily, though, there were no egregious time management errors (which Bowles is known for) in this poorly played contest.
