Week 6 of the 2017 NFL season brings a game between two 4-1 teams and both leaders of their respective divisions in Thursday Night Football.
Thursday Night Football brings a potential “Game of the Week” matchup when the Philadelphia Eagles face the Carolina Panthers. Both the Eagles and Panthers enter the game with 4-1 overall records, and both are the leaders of their respective with the Eagles atop the NFC East and the Panthers atop the NFC South.
The main focus of these two teams is their quarterbacks — as both are ranked in the Top 10 in the NFL in passing yards — with Cam Newton already passing for 1,237 yards, eight touchdowns, five interceptions and four fumbles. For the season, the former NFL MVP is 99-of-145, completing 68.3 percent of his passes, 10 percent over his career average.

For the Eagles, they bring second-year star Carson Wentz under center, and he isn’t suffering a sophomore slump by any means. This season, Wentz has totaled 1,362 passing yards and completed 62.1 percent of his passes (110-of-177). He’s already thrown for 10 touchdowns (he had 16 his rookie season) and thrown just three interceptions.
Besides their quarterback play, the Eagles also enter this Week 6 game ranked sixth in points scored at 27.4 points per game and third in total yards at nearly 400 per game (397.8 yards per game). They are also ninth in passing yardage at 259 ypg, and even their rushing game is fifth in the NFL at 138.8 ypg.
Most of those yards come from LeGarrette Blount with 323 yards on 56 carries (5.8 ypc) and one touchdown.
But the defense of the Eagles isn’t up to par with their offense, as they are allowing 346 yards per game (22nd in the NFL), and they are 29th in the NFL in passing yards allowed (283.2). One plus is they are only allowing 19.8 ppg and just 62.8 rushing ypg.
In comparison, Carolina is 18th in the NFL in points scored at 21 points per game, followed by being the 18th-ranked team in total yards of offense (327.2). Their defense has Top 10 ranks in four major categories, including eighth in 18.8 ppg, plus they are third in the league in 274 total yards per game allowed. The defense of the Panthers is also fifth in passing ypg allowed at 194.2 yards and seventh in rushing yards allowed per game at 79.8.
