1. Marcus Maye

One of the highlights of New York’s surprising campaign has been the steady play of rookie safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye. Some Jets fans may have done a double take when Maye was selected after Adams in the second round of this year’s NFL Draft. However, Maye turned more than a few heads this past Sunday against the Browns with his best performance of the year.

The University of Florida product compiled four tackles (three solo), one pass defensed and his first interception as a pro. His pick came at a key moment as well. With the Browns at the New York four-yard line late in the second quarter, Maye moved in and intercepted a DeShone Kizer pass on third-and-three and returned it 12 yards to the Jets 14 to thwart a dangerous Browns drive.

The Jets have greatly improved their secondary this season and Maye is one of the reasons why. He has been solid in providing run support and pass coverage over the top. He has 23 tackles in five games and has shown excellent speed moving sideline to sideline to track down an opposing player. There was a lot of pressure on Maye heading into the 2017 campaign. Expectations were high. He has come through with flying colors and is improving his performance with each subsequent outing. Maye has the potential to be a Pro Bowl player.
