7. Eric Mangini

Mangini finished his Jets tenure like most of the coaches before him, with a sub-.500 record. It was a rocky road to say the least in his time with Gang Green.

In his first season with the team, they finished 10-6 and made the playoffs. They lost to a division rival, New England, in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. That campaign was following a 4-12 season in which they missed the playoffs.

2007 was a disaster for the Jets, as the Jets lost eight of their first nine games and finished 4-12. It didn’t help that the team lost wide receiver Laveranues Coles and linebacker Jonathan Vilma to injured reserve. The following offseason saw hope return to East Rutherford, NJ, because the Jets traded for Brett Favre, and Super Bowl expectations returned for the first time since 1999.

With the former Packer at the helm, 2008 began strong with an 8-3 start, and the hopes of raising the Lombardi Trophy began to fester, but Favre’s performance deteriorated due to playing with an injury, and the Jets finished 9-7. Mangini was fired by Woody Johnson at the end of the season and finished his Jets tenure with a record of 23-25.
