Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers took a hit and was forced to leave the game in the first quarter with an apparent shoulder injury.

Even when the Green Bay Packers aren’t necessarily a great football team, they’ve always got a chance. That’s because Aaron Rodgers exists and is their starting quarterback. He’s widely regarded as one of the best at the position and a future Hall-of-Famer. Thus, the team always has a chance with him on the field.

However, his position on the field may have been put into jeopardy in Week 6. As the Packers were taking on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon, things took an ugly turn for the Green Bay quarterback early on.

Midway through the first quarter, Rodgers was rolling out to his right. Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr came up and delivered a crushing hit. The quarterback was taken to the ground awkwardly and hard, and came up upset and favoring his shoulder. He then was forced to head to the sidelines and into the medical tent.

To make matters worse, Rodgers came out of the tent and then hopped on a cart to head back to the locker room. Any time that you see the cart come out, it’s not a good sign. Yet, that’s the reality of the situation currently, though there’s no definitive word on the injury at this point.

The team called it a “right shoulder injury” and called his return questionable:

With the superstar quarterback out, he made way for former UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley. There’s no way to fully measure the impact of that kind of drop-off. However, what we can say definitively is that the Packers and fans certainly hope that their stud signal-caller can come back to the game.

We will keep you updated as more information about the Aaron Rodgers injury becomes available.

Update:

It appears that it could well be a broken collarbone for Rodgers, which would obviously be devastating. We’ll update on tests.

Update No. 2:

The team has confirmed a broken collarbone. What’s worse, he could be out for the rest of the season. This is horrible.
