The Pittsburgh Steelers faced the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Oct. 15 in Week 6 of the 2017 NFL season. Here are the highlights from the game.

Who would’ve thought that the Kansas City Chiefs would be undefeated entering Week 6 of the 2017 NFL season? However, that was the reality of the situation at this point. They had far and away been the best team in the league through the first five weeks. Week 6 then allowed them another chance to prove that as they welcomed the Pittsburgh Steelers to Arrowhead Stadium.

For as infallible as the Chiefs have looked this season, they looked nothing of the sort right out of the gate in Week 6. Their defense came up with a stop early, but their offense had blunders right away. Backed up deep, a bad snap got by Alex Smith and went out of the back of the end zone, resulting in a safety. However, Kansas City fought back as Antonio Brown misplayed the ensuing punt and the Chiefs recovered.

However, the KC defense then got lit up by the Steelers offense. With a heavy dose of every weapon they have, Pittsburgh went 80 yards in 12 plays before Le’Veon Bell ran it in from three yards out. Meanwhile, the Chiefs offense continued to look anemic, posting two three-and-outs on their next two possessions. The Steelers then kicked a field goal to make it 12-3 going into halftime.

In the second half, it appeared that the Kansas City defense was about to take over. They stopped everything Pittsburgh tried to do to put up more points, bending but not breaking. However, the offense continued to struggle early until the fourth quarter. After turning the ball over on downs in their previous drive, the Chiefs answered with a touchdown drive when Smith found De’Anthony Thomas for a deep t score.

However, the defense then faltered at the worst time. They allowed Brown to get loose down the right sideline to put another touchdown on the board for the Steelers. The Chiefs had their chances, though. They drove for a field goal and then stopped Pittsburgh. However, with a chance to drive and win, they came up short and couldn’t get it done, taking their first loss of the season as a result.

This is a playoff rematch from last season. However, the Chiefs have clearly stepped forward while the Steelers may well have taken a leap backwards. Thus, it’ll be interesting to see if those trends continue, or if it’s a replay of the postseason matchup.
