The Dallas Cowboys need a shot in the arm and adding a big playmaker like disgruntled Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant could help

First, the elephant in the room needs to be addressed. The Dallas Cowboys have a lot of guys on their roster who have been in trouble for off field issues, so when a guy like Martavis Bryant of the Pittsburgh Steelers asks for a trade, the first reaction is probably “no way.”

However, such a notion shouldn’t be dismissed so quickly because this is a talented player that could really help the Cowboys in an area of need.

Engulfed in their week off, the Cowboys had time to assess where they are. While many of their holes have been on the defensive side of the ball, there’s also a lack of help at wide receiver. Teams are selling out to cover their No. 1 receiver Dez Bryant, and no one is making them pay.

So when it gets reported that a deep threat like the Steelers’ Bryant requests a trade, the Cowboys should listen. And according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, that’s exactly what’s happened with the unhappy pass catcher.

In Pittsburgh, Bryant has become a victim of the numbers. He finds himself behind possibly the best receiver in the game in Antonio Brown and rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster — who is playing very well.

While there’s no guarantee that Pittsburgh will give in to the request, he would be a fit in Dallas. Currently Terrance Williams is the No. 2 guy, but he’s been ineffective and seems to have a costly gaffe on a weekly basis — like the pick-six against Green Bay that bounced off his chest.

It’s worth mentioning that he publicly stated that he was happy in Pittsburgh as these trade rumors surfaced. But where there’s smoke, there’s fire — and Dallas would be foolish to not go get a look at the fire. At just 25 years of age, Bryant is young enough to still have a long career in front of him. He’s also fresh off a full season suspension for substance abuse which cost him his entire 2016 campaign.

While that’s a concern, the fact is he’s done well enough to get back on the field in 2017. Bryant’s best season came in 2015 when he had 50 receptions for 765 yards and six touchdowns. He had eight touchdowns as a rookie as well. His ability to hit the big play would be welcome in Big D, and they may finally make teams pay for focusing so much attention on their own Bryant.
