Green Bay Packers: Time for rest of roster to rise to occasion
By Hunter Noll
The Green Bay Packers suffered a major blow on Sunday, losing Aaron Rodgers, but it’s up to the rest of the talent on the roster to step up.
The supporting cast of the Green Bay Packers has been an enigma for quite some time. While they definitely have plenty of weapons there are questions that surround them. How many of these guys are elite? Are they just products of the immense talent of Aaron Rodgers, or do they bring their own skills to the table?
Of course, having a quarterback as good as Rodgers will help anyone. That doesn’t mean some of the talent on the Packers won’t continue to flourish in their offense. At the same time though, don’t expect everyone to see no drop-off in production.
The Packers have quite a few players that would be considered top-tier or close at their position on offense. Martellus Bennett is the only one with any experience outside of Green Bay though. Due to that, you can cross him off the “only good because of Rodgers” list.
After that, there’s three receivers and an argument for one running back. Jordy Nelson is one of the best receivers in the game, while Randall Cobb and Davante Adams have put together strong resumes. Meanwhile, Ty Montgomery emerged as a solid running back last year, and is definitely a pass-catching threat. This makes him extremely dangerous out of the backfield.
What will they do long-term without Rodgers though? This is an argument anyone that has vouched for these players has probably heard before. They’re nothing more than a product of playing with a great quarterback.

Anyone that watches the Packers knows that these players all bring something special to the field though. If Green Bay wants to succeed without Rodgers, they’ll need to perform. Now’s their chance to prove they’re more than just the receiving end of a Hall of Fame quarterback.
