The Jacksonville Jaguars signed kicker Josh Lambo to replace Jason Myers after the latter’s struggles in Week 6 forced Jacksonville to make the move.

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed kicker Josh Lambo to replace Jason Myers on Tuesday. Myers missed two 54-yard field goals on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. His struggles with long distance attempts, likely fueled this move.

Lambo was a free agent signee after playing collegiately at Texas A&M, landing with the San Diego Chargers initially. He kicked the past two seasons in San Diego until losing his spot before Week 1 as the franchise made the move to Los Angeles.

John Oehser of Jaguars.com reports the move:

"The Jaguars have changed kickers…have signed third-year kicker Josh Lambo,…Lambo, 26, played for the San Diego Chargers the past two seasons after making the team in 2015 as a collegiate free agent. He made 52 of 64 career field goals and converted 70 of 78 extra points in two seasons and was released on September 2, 2017."

This move is a surprising development but not expected. Myers fought inconsistency throughout his tenure with the Jaguars. Jacksonville apparently had lost patience with him.

Phillip Heilman of jacksonville.com reported that the Jaguars worked out “several kickers” over the past couple of months. Jacksonville was preparing to make the move according to Heilman’s report. Due to Myers’ inaccuracy, Lambo ultimately won the position.

Lambo is a better extra point kicker than Myers. For his career, he’s converted on 89.7 perent of his extra point attempts. He’s also perfect in his career from field goals 20-29 yards and has missed just once from 30-39 yards.

The newest Jaguar also has the ability to make long kicks. His draft profile at NFL.com says:

"Has background in soccer of making goal kicks for accuracy and distance. Accurate kicker. Gets instant elevation on kicks and hits it end over end. Has adequate leg strength to improve kickoff distance as a pro."

Kickers have a fragile self confidence level. Since they are judged by their successful kicks, it gets bad when they miss time after time. Myers’ last miss looked like a knuckleball going wide left. Hopefully Lambo has a short memory and becomes the kicker that Jacksonville needs him to be.
