Green Bay Packers: What to expect from Brett Hundley this year
By Hunter Noll
The fate of the Green Bay Packers is in the hands of Brett Hundley. How will the backup perform as a starter, and can the team survive without Aaron Rodgers?
Brett Hundley has been an intriguing member of the Green Bay Packers since he was drafted back in 2015. With that being said, he had only attempted 10 passes heading into this season. After Sunday, that total went up to 44. Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone and will miss considerable time for the Packers. That means the fate of their season could rest on the unproven arm of Hundley.
While he seems to be someone who generates a fair amount of interest when considering future quarterbacks of other teams, Hundley didn’t have an opening with the Packers. Oddly enough, his first big chance is coming in Green Bay, though. Of course, it’s under unfortunate circumstances, but it’s still an opportunity.
In his limited time, Hundley hasn’t exactly turned any heads. He went 2-for-10 with 17 yards and an interception last season. Meanwhile, he completed 19-of-34 for 157 one touchdown and three interceptions in Week 6.

Although the numbers aren’t pretty, there’s a ready made excuse. Hundley was thrown into action on Sunday. Therefore, a shaky performance shouldn’t be completely unexpected for someone with such little experience. Moving forward though, there should be some notable improvements.
First of all, the quarterback will now be getting all his snaps with the first team offense. This will give him more of a chance to gel with his teammates. He’ll get better rhythm and timing with his receivers and running backs.
Then, of course, there will be the game speed. It wouldn’t be surprising to hear Hundley was a little overwhelmed by the speed of the game. Practice isn’t exactly the same as facing Harrison Smith in a real game. That’s something that might need an adjustment period. The good news is, he won’t have to face Smith every week.
Green Bay’s playoff chances aren’t completely crushed. Hundley will have to be a solid NFL quarterback if they’re to have a chance though. While it’s definitely possible, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him struggle either.

Don’t expect Hundley to go out there and dominant on a regular basis. There should be some week-to-week improvements though. He should be able to build on something each week, and show he can grow as an NFL quarterback. If he can do this, he’ll get plenty of calls during Free Agency.
