A year removed from a monster season, Reshad Jones is the driving force once again in Miami. Give this man the respect he deserves.

Coming off season-ending shoulder surgery in 2016, Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones is playing like the Defensive Player of the Year candidate he was in 2015. Yet, he doesn’t seem to get the same respect as many other stars.

In 2015 he recorded 135 tackles, had two sacks, recovered a fumble and picked off five passes while scoring two touchdowns. Those numbers were by far better than any defensive back in the league and his film backs those numbers up. However, he wasn’t named to an All-Pro team and only made the Pro Bowl as an alternate.

How is that even possible? He was a no doubt first-team All-Pro player in 2015. I get why they made Eric Berry first team. It was a great story and, as crass as it is, a nice move from a PR perspective — but not even second-team or a Pro Bowl starter? Now he’s commanding the respect he deserves with his play on the field yet again.

Over the past two games alone, he’s notched 14 tackles, 0.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, a touchdown and a game sealing interception against last year’s MVP, Matt Ryan. The past two weeks, Jones is constantly around the ball making plays and every time he’s on the field he’s been the best player out there. That’s saying a lot considering he’s out there with guys like Ryan, Julio Jones, DeMarco Murray and Ndamukong Suh.

It’s time to take notice and make sure Jones gets his recognition this year. Especially if you’re a Dolphins fan. He’s an elite talent that needs to be in the conversation for DPOY, All-Pro and should be locked in as a Pro Bowler if he continues to play at this level. There’s no excuse this time if the team keeps winning games.
