The Dallas Cowboys faced the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Oct. 22 in Week 7 of the 2017 NFL season. Here are highlights from the game.
These teams faced off early last season as the world was still trying to figure out how good the rookie quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys was. Dak Prescott led them to a win there, and now heads back to Santa Clara to play the San Francisco 49ers with much more clout.
Prescott won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award last season, and so far has shown no signs of having a sophomore slump. The players around him though may not be so fortunate in avoiding some type of slump as Prescott has had to place this team on his shoulders and try to navigate his way through their burning building of a season.
Dallas currently sits at 2-3, but without Prescott that could be much worse. He willed them to a win in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals before they fell into a two-week losing slump. Now fresh off a bye, they will face the 0-6 49ers.
During their last loss, San Francisco benched starting quarterback Brian Hoyer and went with rookie C.J. Beathard. The third-round pick from Iowa showed promise, and hopes to have a successful first start in the NFL.
The Niners showed other commitments to their youth movement by releasing veteran linebacker NaVorro Bowman earlier this week. Dallas was reportedly interested in him, but he signed with the Oakland Raiders — which eliminated what would have been a fascinating storyline this weekend.
