3. Chargers are staying committed to the ground game

One of the most encouraging things about this Chargers football team over the last three weeks has been their commitment to running the football, despite their success on the ground. Now, Melvin Gordon was running the ball well against New York and Oakland, but the real test was going to come against the stingy Broncos defense in Week 7.

More from Los Angeles Chargers

Needless to say, offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt learned from his past mistakes and passed this test with flying colors.

The Chargers had a total of 26 carries on Sunday afternoon against Denver for only 80 total yards. That said, even though they were held to under 100 yards on the ground, I still see that as a huge positive for Los Angeles moving forward.

It’s one thing to not get the run game going, but it’s another thing to stay committed when things aren’t going well. In this AFC West division, teams have to keep with the run game in order to slow down the opposing team’s pass-rushers. That’s exactly what the Chargers succeeded at doing in Week 7.
