New York Jets: Young team developing a huge problem
There’s a huge problem becoming a trend with the New York Jets. They’re committing too many penalties, and it’s leading to losses.
The New York Jets have blown two touchdown leads in each of their last two games. The trend is alarming, and they need to fix it, pronto. Penalties do two things. They give the opponents free yardage when your on defense, and it backs up your offense. They both could be a big factor in why the team is blowing leads.
If you hold on to the ball, the other offense will have fewer plays to make a comeback. The Jets have committed 18 false start and holding penalties this season. That’s tied for third most in the NFL.
When it comes to false starts, 41 players in the NFL have committed two or more false start penalties. Two of them are Jets offensive linemen (James Carpenter and Brian Winters with two each). Austin Seferian-Jenkins (3) and Winters (2) are among the players with the most holding penalties.
When it comes to defensive penalties, it give the offense free yards and sometimes results in automatic first downs. Three Jets defensive players are tied for third most in number of penalties. Buster Skrine, Darron Lee, and Morris Claiborne all have been flagged six times this season.
All of them are among the ten players with the most yardage given up on penalties. Skrine has the sixth most penalty yards (71). Lee is only one yard behind him with the seventh most, and Claiborne is ties for the ninth most (60).
