The Washington Redskins faced the Philadelphia Eagles on October 23, 2017, in Week 7 of the 2017 NFL regular season. Here are highlights from the game.

The Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles meet on Monday night in an all-important rematch of their Week tilt the Eagles won 30-17. At 5-1, Philly comes into this game with an opportunity to take a commanding lead in the NFC East. A sweep of the Redskins would essentially give the Eagles a 3 1/2-game lead the second-place Redskins, who’d be tied with Dallas for second place in the division.

The Redskins are a much better team than they were in Week 1. Quarterback Kirk Cousins looked as if he was still in preseason mode and the offensive uncharacteristically struggled. Even with those issues, the Redskins were in this game until the end. However, Fletcher Cox sacked Cousins, who appeared to fumble the football, and returned it for a touchdown. Further evidence showed this was not a fumble. So, we were unable to see if Cousins could work some fourth-quarter magic. Since that time, Cousins has proven he’s up to the challenge in the final quarter.

Philadelphia quarterback Carson Wentz is having an MVP-type season thus far in 2017. Wentz has passed for over 300 yards in three of Philadelphia’s six games and is taking better care of the football this season. This Monday, he gets to face a Washington secondary without Josh Norman and a hobbled Bashaud Breeland.

Washington is also without first-round pick Jonathan Allen. Losing Allen is a significant blow to the defensive line and other players must step up. Can Anthony Lanier and Terrell McClain step right in and not miss a beat?

We generally don’t count Week 7 games as must-win contests in the NFL. There is just so much of the season left. And for Washington, this isn’t a must-win game in terms of its playoff chances. However, if the Redskins want a chance to win the NFC East, they cannot afford to lose in the City of Brotherly Love on Monday night.
