It may only be roughly midseason, but here’s a look at five players the Dallas Cowboys could target in the 2018 NFL Draft as they keep building their roster

One thing the Dallas Cowboys have been doing the right way in recent years is building a quality roster through the draft. All their key pieces have come this way, with 2016 being arguably their best draft — possibly ever.

That was the year they added a franchise running back in Ezekiel Elliott with the fourth overall pick and also added a franchise quarterback in Dak Prescott with a compensatory pick in the fourth round. In between those two guys they also secured linebacker Jaylon Smith — who could be a star if he ever gets fully comfortable on his surgically repaired knee — and defensive tackle Maliek Collins who has been a solid piece in the middle of their defensive line.

Dallas also added cornerback Anthony Brown in the sixth round, and he’s been proven to be a decent player as well. The jury’s still out on many of the players from their 2017 class, but so far third-round pick Jourdan Lewis and sixth-round selection Xavier Woods look to be steals as solid defensive backs for the Boys.

They’re doing a good job putting those pieces together, but there’s still work to do as evidenced by some of their struggles so far in the 2017 season. As they look to the future, here’s an early look at five players that could be first round targets for Dallas in the 2018 NFL Draft.
