Dallas Cowboys: 5 First-round targets in the 2018 NFL Draft at midseason
By Randy Gurzi
4. James Washington, WR — Oklahoma State
The best wide receiver for Dallas is Dez Bryant, the player they selected in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma State. What the Cowboys haven’t done though is given him a true threat on the opposite side to take pressure off of him.
Players like receiver Cole Beasley and tight end Jason Witten have been great, but they occupy the middle of the field more so than the outside. One option in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft will be to finally add a player that can do that, which leads us to look at Bryant’s old stomping grounds.
Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington, Jr. could be an ideal fit on the other side of Bryant. He’s listed at 6-0 and 205 pounds, but he plays much bigger than that. Washington isn’t afraid of contact and can go up and get the ball when there’s tight coverage.
Despite boasting a muscular frame, Washington has been a big-play guy that kills teams with his speed. For his career, the senior has averaged just north of 20 yards per reception and has more than 30 touchdowns in his career. Selecting him can really open up their offense, as Washington would provide that deep field spark that current No. 2 wide out Terrance Williams has failed to do.
