Round 5, Pick 16: Kendrick Norton, DL – Miami

While I know the Packers have already addressed their defensive line issue by drafting Nnadi in the second round, the thing about depth is that you can never have enough. A big part of this pick depends on the status of veteran nose tackle B.J. Raji. Raji was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft but announced his decision to take a hiatus from football before the 2016 season.

At the time, many players and fans expected Raji to make a return after 2016. However, despite interest from the Packers, Raji continued his hiatus into this season. Raji still has not officially retired but as its growing to look like Raji might not return, the Packers should draft Kendrick Norton to add defensive line depth.

There is a lot to love about Kendrick Norton. Norton is one of the best players of a talented Miami Hurricane team. Norton is power personified and is a prototype defensive tackle. While Norton may not have a ton of stats (nose tackles rarely do) he has all the physical tools one needs to be a great defensive lineman in the NFL.

Norton never gives up on a play which is great to see and has a surprising amount of speed when he gets into the backfield. If all that isn’t enough for you to want Norton on your team, here is a video of Norton using an opposing player’s leg as a guitar after he made a tackle.
