2018 NFL Draft: Green Bay Packers 7-round mock draft in October
By Nick Sparrow
Round 5, Pick 38: Michael Gallup, WR – Colorado State
It may seem weird for the Packers to draft a wide receiver considering they are already stacked with talent at the position. Green Bay boasts one of the best receiver cores in the NFL with Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams, and Randall Cobb with up-and-comers Geronimo Allison and Jeff Janis as well.
The problem for the Packers is that their stud receivers can’t stay on the field. Both Nelson and Cobb have missed games to injury this season, while Adams was knocked out their Week 4 game with a head injury. Allison was also suspended for Green Bay’s opener due to violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Michael Gallup is the best receiver that many have not heard of. Gallup is at a disadvantage due to playing for a small market school like Colorado State and transferring to Division I after playing for a community college for two years. Still, few have impressed more than Gallup since the start of 2016. Gallup had one of the most astounding finishes in college football last year, scoring at least one touchdown in each of his last eight games (12 total) and breaking 100 yards receiving in each of his last five games.
2017 hasn’t been less impressive for Gallup, who has five touchdowns through eight games. In two of his last four games, Gallup has broken 200 yards receiving including a 263-yard, three-touchdown performance against Nevada. Imagining Gallup and Rodgers should already have Packer fans getting excited.
