2018 NFL Draft: Green Bay Packers 7-round mock draft in October

Round 6, Pick 16: Will Grier, QB – West Virginia
Is there a better time to worry about the team’s future at quarterback than the season where your franchise player is knocked out with a broken collarbone? The Packers are clearly a team looking for a player that can develop over time under Rodgers, which is the perfect scenario for Grier. Green Bay recently drafted Brett Hundley in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Hundley is filling in for Rodgers currently but I haven’t seen anything from him to make me believe Green Bay is happy to count on Hundley as the future of the team.
Hundley was called in during the first half of the Packers Week 6 matchup between NFC North rival Minnesota Vikings. Since then, Hundley has attempted 58 passes and completed just 30 for 244 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions. The 51.7 percent completion rate and 4.2 yards per pass attempt Hundley has currently is worse than any starting quarterback in the league.
Meanwhile, Grier is having a great year for West Virginia with 26 touchdowns and five interceptions in just seven games. Grier thew 10 touchdowns and three interceptions in six games with the Florida Gators in 2015 before getting suspended for all of the 2016 season and transferring to West Virginia.
At this pace, Grier is on pace to finish the season with 44 passing touchdowns, which would have been one short of leading the nation last year. For the record, Hundley’s career-high touchdown total was 29 in 2012.
