Round 6, Pick 33: Shaq Wiggins, CB – Tennessee

Shaq Wiggins is a talented player that seemingly cannot find a good fit on a team. Wiggins started his college career at Georgia before transferring to Louisville. At the time, Wiggins claimed he decided to transfer in an attempt to find a team that would “embrace his personality”. That seemed to have failed as Louisville coach Bobby Petrino threw Wiggins out on his first day with the team. Still, Wiggins had two interceptions and 14 passes defended in his two years with the Cardinals. Wiggins is now playing for Tennessee as a fifth-year graduate transfer.

There are some red flags with Wiggins but Green Bay needs to add some talent at corner and he is the best talent available at this stage. The Packers best corner, Davon House, is currently ranked as the 55th best cornerback in the league by Pro Football Focus Edge with an average grade of 74.7. That is simply not good enough for the best cornerback on a Super Bowl contending team. Wiggins helps bring in competition and depth here.

Round 6, Pick 39: Sean Welsh, C – Iowa

Welsh is a natural center but was moved to right guard earlier this season and has been performing well from this slot. This alone is enough for me to love what Welsh can provide for this Packers. Green Bay is a team that cannot keep their offensive line healthy and Welsh not only provides depth but more importantly he provides versatility. Welsh can be plugged in at either guard position or center throughout a game or to sub in for an injury.

While that is not an especially rare feat in the NFL, its remains an incredibly valuable one. This isn’t an exciting pick but it could be one of the best for what the Packers need.
