The Denver Broncos faced the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, Oct. 30 in Week 8 of the 2017 NFL season. Here are highlights from the game.

The Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Denver Broncos on a primetime, Monday Night Football showcase of two AFC West rivals. The AFC West looked like the best division in the NFL after the first two weeks of the season as three teams were undefeated. However, AFC West teams have expectedly started to slip over the last few weeks as both the Chiefs and Broncos are on a two-game losing streak and the Oakland Raiders have a losing record. The Chiefs and Broncos are certainly looking to get their seasons back on track as well as improve their division record as they prepare to face off.

The Chiefs lost a heartbreaking game to the Oakland Raiders last Thursday night in which the Raiders received multiple untimed downs after the game clock hit zero before finally scoring a touchdown to win 31-30. Since the start of the 2016 season, Kansas City has lost seven games including regular season and playoffs. Last Thursday marked the sixth of those seven losses to be decided by a single score.

The Broncos were held scoreless against the 3-4 Chargers last Sunday. Denver had not been shutout in a game since Week 12 of the 1992 season. The Broncos have now lost three of their last four games, with their last two losses coming against teams with a combined record of 4-10. Denver’s defense still looks pretty good, currently ranked first in yards allowed and first downs allowed. However, their offense has shown serious decline over recent weeks, scoring just 20 points over the last three games combined. The Broncos had scored 82 points over their first three games.

The Chiefs defeated the Broncos twice last season to sweep the series, a feat they had not accomplished since the 2000 season. Still, the Broncos have had recent success in this rivalry. Denver has won seven of the last ten games between the two and five of the last six at Arrowhead Stadium.

Like any division game, this outcome could have serious implications as the season progressed. No matter who losses they will find themselves on a three-game losing streak, with consecutive division losses and a 1-2 AFC West record. That could be a season killer. It is rare to have a game this important before the halfway mark of the season, but really this could end up being the defining win or loss of 2017 for either team.
