3. Shanahan’s offense can start to take shape

If you need any indication of how great of an offensive mind first-year 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is, just look at the season that the Atlanta Falcons are having following his departure. Matt Ryan was the 2016 MVP and the Dirty Birds offense was nigh unstoppable every time out. They’re still good without Shanahan, but they haven’t been nearly as threatening.

However, the trouble that the head coach has had with his new team is that he truly hasn’t had the quarterback necessary to start fully instituting his offense. True, he doesn’t have much weaponry to work with overall as well. With that said, not much of what he wants to do works when Brian Hoyer and C.J. Beathard are taking the snaps.

With Garoppolo at the helm, however, things change in a big way. They now have both stability and upside at the position moving forward that wasn’t there with the two aforementioned upside. Not only does that just improve the play of the offense immediately, but it allows Shanny’s offense to start taking shape in his new home.

Because of that, there are two benefits that are immediately evident. For one, the offense will improve for the second half of the 2017 season. That’s a given just based on talent and being able to function as a unit. More importantly, though, Garoppolo gets a jump on picking up the system and, thusly, should have a better grasp on it as the unit gets more talented for the 2018 campaign.
