Fantasy Football 2017: Start or sit for Week 9
By Dan Thomas
With Week 9 of the regular season set to kick off tonight, who are the players fantasy football owners should want to start and sit?
It’s been a crazy week in the NFL with multiple fantasy football relevant players being traded over the last few days. Not to mention, we enter the second-straight week with six teams on a bye. Just like every other week, there are a lot of factors owners need to consider when setting their lineups for Week 9. So who are the players owners should be starting this week and who are the players they should be avoiding?
Here are some players you should consider starting or sitting for Week 9.
Note: Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers all have a bye this week.
Quarterbacks
Start
Tyrod Taylor, Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets – The always dangerous Tyrod Taylor has the ability to damage with his feet just as we saw last week when he scored a rushing touchdown. Tonight he will face the same Jets defense he beat for 262 total yards and two touchdowns in Week 1. I like his chances of doing well against them for the second time this season.
Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams vs. New York Giants – After two poor performances in Weeks 5-6, Goff had a nice outing in Week 7 when he finished with 18.7 fantasy points. This week he faces a Giants defense who have given up 10 touchdown passes over their last four games. Oh yeah, did I mention they will also be without their No. 1 cornerback Janoris Jenkins?
Sit
Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals vs. Jacksonville Jaguars – Dalton was one of my favorite players to start last week and he proved me right by scoring 18.7 fantasy points. Well, that was last week. This week he takes on the Jaguars defense who have given up four touchdown passes for the entire season. Stay away from Dalton like he’s carrying some sort of disease.
Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans vs. Baltimore Ravens – Mariota has under-performed so far this season, but in the right spot, I still think he can produce like a top-five quarterback. Unfortunately, this is not one of those spots. The Ravens have been shutting down opposing quarterbacks this season and I believe they’ll do the same to Mariota.
