2. Big-time rushing attack

The first time the rushing attack had a game like Thursday night was against one of the league’s worst run defense. They averaged 3.1 yards per carry against the Patriots and 2.0 yards per carry against the Falcons. However, things were different against the Bills.

The Bills came into Week 9 averaging 3.8 yards per carry and 80.1 yards per game. In the two of the last three games the Jets rushing attack was nonexistent. So many people thought it would be much of the same. They were wrong.

It was a turn back the clock game for Matt Forte. Forte had 5.5 yards per carry and two touchdowns. Bilal Powell also had a great day averaging 8.2 yards per carry. As a team the Jets almost had 200 yards total on the ground, and they averaged 4.7 yards per carry with three touchdowns. Josh McCown even got his third rushing touchdown of the season, which at this point is higher than five teams in the NFL.

In order to win this game, the Jets had to establish the run, and they did early. They also didn’t get away from it. They just kept pounding the rock and dominated the Bills on the ground.
