Quarterbacks: D

General manager Ryan Pace made a concerted effort to overhaul the quarterback position. Out went Jay Cutler after nine seasons and in came Mike Glennon. Then Pace shocked everyone by moving up in the draft to select Trubisky with the second overall pick. The plan was to sit Trubisky this season and have Glennon run the offense. After five interceptions and 2 lost fumbles in four games, however, Trubisky replaced him.

Glennon was just a bad fit for the Bears. He is a statuesque quarterback who just cannot move. Add to it his propensity to turn the ball over and you see how the Bears had no choice but to go to Trubisky.

Even though the Bears start Trubisky, it doesn’t mean they feel any more comfortable than they did when he was on the bench. The coaching staff (under the direction of John Fox) completely scaled back the offense to make things simple for him. Trubisky hasn’t had a chance to really show off his abilities, though he’s given us a peek at times.

Some agree with the handling of Trubisky, but others feel he should be given more. What better way to learn than to take some lumps now? It worked for Peyton Manning.

While the offense struggles, Trubisky’s flashes give the fans and the organization a lot of hope. He has the charisma and the confidence you want from your leader and really wants to get better and show what he could do. After the win against the Carolina Panthers, he was upset. He threw just seven passes and he couldn’t hide his disappointment. Instead of blaming people or causing a disruption, he took responsibility and promised to do better. He is showing true leadership so far.

Inserting Trubisky into the lineup gave the team a boost. Even some defensive players voiced their desire for a change on offense. Now it is time to get some victories to keep that boost. We can only hope that the coaches increase Trubisky’s workload. We can then get a better look at what he does and may help increase the win total.
