Houston Texans: Players want Colin Kaepernick at quarterback

There are reportedly some players in the Houston Texans locker room that want to see Colin Kaepernick signed after losing Deshaun Watson to a torn ACL

Quoting a report from NFL insider Jay Glazer, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk says that players for the Houston Texans want to see the team sign quarterback Colin Kaepernick — although the team hasn’t gone down that road yet.

Kaepernick is a polarizing figure, and many believe he isn’t getting his shot to get back in the NFL because of his stance on social issues. Kaepernick was the first player to initially sit out, and then eventually kneel for the national anthem. That has now turned into a league-wide protest, and the belief by several players is that Kap is being kept out for starting that movement.

Kaepernick himself feels so strongly that he deserves to be in the league that he’s actually filed a collusion lawsuit. That lawsuit could be dropped should the players in Houston get what they want in regards to the mobile quarterback.

While it’s not always wise to let the players make the decisions, it’s not a far-fetched idea. Houston started the season with Tom Savage under center, but when they realized that he was still Tom Savage, they benched him for rookie Deshaun Watson. The athletic Watson was a spark plug for them and was the easy choice for Rookie of the Year before a torn ACL in practice ended his season.

Houston turned back to Savage, but he proved again that he’s still the same guy. Rather than continually trotting him out and losing, what would it hurt to give Kaepernick a shot and allow him to run the same offense Watson was using.

While Kaepernick won’t be the same player as the rookie, he has shown the ability to move the ball some, especially when rolling out of the pocket. Sure, not all players would make great general managers, but this one actually makes sense.
