Special Teams

Chandler Catanzaro barely beat out Ross Martin for the kicker job during the preseason and he has had an inconsistent year. The University of Clemson product has connected on 15 of 19 field goal attempts (78.9 percent), but his two missed field goals against Atlanta in the pouring rain cost New York the game. He has always had a strong leg, but accuracy has been a nagging issue.

New York’s punt and kickoff units have been very average while punter Lac Edwards has enjoyed a solid campaign overall with a 47.0 yard average on 47 boots.

Coaching

You have to hand it to Todd Bowles. No one thought his team was going to be this competitive this season but the Jets have played exceptionally hard every game. They have been well prepared and focused in every contest. They’ve been a joy to watch.

The Jets could easily be 7-2 if they learned how to finish games out. They finally did in their rousing triumph over the Bills last Thursday. It looks like Gang Green would run through a wall for Bowles and that says a great deal. You can expect a superb effort in every outing.

Credit also goes to offensive coordinator John Morton for using the tight end again in his game plans. It’s been a long time coming.
