Jacksonville Jaguars: 3 Keys to winning third in a row
By Larry Brake
The Jacksonville Jaguars are eager to host the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 10. Most of all, Jacksonville is looking to win their third consecutive game.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have switched roles this season. In past seasons, the Jaguars were striving to be competitive. Now, Jacksonville has their eyes set on a playoff spot and beyond. On Sunday in Week 10, Jacksonville plays host to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Jaguars, if victorious, will win their third consecutive game, something they haven’t done since 2013..
Jacksonville defeated Houston twice and Cleveland that season. Most noteworthy of the 2013 achievement was claiming two of the three wins were on the road. The Jaguars defeated Houston and Cleveland back to back on the road. Then they completed the Houston sweep at home for the third-straight win.
Currently, the Jaguars are tied for first place in the AFC South, even though they have struggled to string wins together. Now they have two back-to-back victories and are aiming for three in a row. The Chargers have always played Jacksonville tough, but this is a different bunch of Jaguars.
Since 2013, the Chargers have defeated Jacksonville four-straight times. The average game score is 32-15, as it seems like Los Angeles always wins by a wide margin. A 31-25 loss back in 2015 is the closest the Jaguars have come over that span.
The 2017 Jaguars have found a way to win and are winning big. They are led by their ferocious defense and by their methodical offense. There are three keys for the Jaguars to get that third straight victory.
First, the Jaguars defense must constantly pressure the quarterback. Philip Rivers has routinely shredded the Jaguars secondary throughout his career. The Jaguars secondary will blanket the Chargers receiver which will allow for many coverage quarterback sacks. Calais Campbell and the other linemen will definitely add to their sack totals.
Second, the Jacksonville offensive line has to control the line of scrimmage. They can not afford to let the Chargers to pressure Blake Bortles or stuff the running game. Leonard Fournette should be able to run through the porous Chargers run defense.

Third, Bortles must continue to spread the ball around, especially to Marcedes Lewis. Lewis has played well this season. He has been targeted 26 times this season and has scored four touchdowns. Bortles must force Los Angeles to account for Lewis in their coverages.
Expect to see another Jacksonville victory, whether it’s a close game or another blowout. They are playing at a very high level and have playoff expectations that they should realize.
