Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott can’t do everything with Ezekiel Elliott out
Other playmakers
The wide receivers are next up. What they do will be directly tied to Prescott, but it is time for them to make more plays with the ball in their hands. This will also come down to the play calling, but the Cowboys need to get these guys in open space, so Prescott does not have to make a perfect throw every time they need to move the ball.
The Cowboys need to find a way to make the short passing game an extension of the running game. Dez Bryant is unstoppable running the slant, Cole Beasley is an impossible cover within five yards of the line of scrimmage, and Jason Witten continues to be among the NFL’s most reliable tight ends. Add on Terrance Williams’ breakout game with Bryant hurting, and they have a core of receivers they can embrace. The Cowboys need to find a new way to sustain their drives, and Prescott will not be able to do it by himself.
The Cowboys could even look to get Ryan Switzer involved. A problem is that Garrett has never been the type to try and throw in trick plays. Without Elliott they will not be as successful playing vanilla. Elliot is not the only playmaker on the Cowboys, but he is, by far, the most utilized. The Cowboys need to make sure they are utilizing as many play makers as possible, and with the pressure already on Prescott, these receivers need to bring all of the reliability, while finding ways to provide that extra spark.
