Defense

You had to feel sorry for the defensive corps because it seemed like they were on the field for almost the entire game. The Jets offense had numerous three-and-outs and Tampa Bay scored their only touchdown late in the game when New York’s defense was tired.

Gang Green gave up just 15 points and only 271 yards from scrimmage. Former teammate Ryan Fitzpatrick completed just half of his pass attempts (17-of-34) and threw for only 187 yards. He was a game manager and nothing more. He had to be delighted to get a victory against his old mates. It helped that the Bucs were without top receiver Mike Evans (suspended) but neither Desean Jackson (6-82) or tight end Cameron Brate (1-10) hurt them very much.

What was so disappointing about this contest was New York’s lack of a viable pass rush. After swarming the Bills for seven sacks in Week 9, the Jets could muster just one sack on the afternoon (Leonard Williams). The Harvard Beard got rid of the ball quickly but New York has to do a better job of collapsing the pocket moving forward.

On the positive side, cornerback Darryl Roberts had a team-high eight tackles and an interception while rookie safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye were solid once again in pass coverage and helping to snuff the run. Doug Martin was held to just 51 yards on the ground on 20 carries.
