Chandler Catanzaro connected on his lone field goal attempt from 48 yards away. Punter Lac Edwards had a very busy day with 43.7 average on seven boots, including two inside the 20.

The Jets allowed Bernard Reedy to gallop for a 44-yard punt return, but aside from that, their kickoff and coverage units were efficient. Catanzaro has to work on his onside kicks during the upcoming bye week because his onside kick attempt with 28 seconds remaining had no chance to be recovered by his team. It was just brutal. It’s time to get to work.

Coaching

For the first time this season, it looked like the Jets were ill-prepared to compete. They looked listless, lethargic, like they never got their wakeup call. That is a bad reflection on Todd Bowles and his coaching staff.

Where were the in-game adjustments to protect McCown better? He was getting eaten alive in the pocket. Why did it take so long for Austin Seferian-Jenkins to get involved in the offense? ASJ finished with six receptions for 67 yards but almost all of his production came in the waning minutes of the game. Too late. John Morton’s game plan was way too conservative.

This was a huge step back for Bowles. His team had a chance to go to .500 before their bye week. The Jets played against a backup quarterback and did not have to worry about Mike Evans. They blew it. It’s going to be a long two weeks before their next game against Carolina.
