New York Jets: 3 Free Agents to consider signing in 2018
2. Jarvis Landry, WR
As well as Jermaine Kearse and Robby Anderson have played so far this season, the Jets have a real need for a true number one wide receiver. A playmaker. The LSU product would certainly fill the bill. If Gang Green was able to ink Landry to a free agent pact, they would be taking him from a hated AFC East opponent, the Miami Dolphins. Nothing wrong with that.
The four-year NFL veteran leads the NFL in receptions (61) this season, one ahead of Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown. His one Achilles heel is that he is averaging just 7.7 yards per catch but he does have a nose for the end zone. He leads the Dolphins in touchdowns (5) and Kirk Cousins would look a lot better tossing him the pigskin than Jay Cutler.
Let’s take a look at some of his highlights:
As you can see, Landry has fine breakaway speed and superb hands. He can make the tough catch in traffic while also providing plenty of YAC (yards after catch). He is still just 24 years old and has had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons for the Fish. He is the type of dynamic game-breaker that the Jets desperately need. You team him with Cousins and mix in Kearse, Anderson and a healthy Quincy Enunwa and you have a very formidable receiving corps.
The Convent, LA native is making a base salary of $893,852 this year, so he is well underpaid by NFL standards. If the Jets were to offer him a four-year contract for $48 million that might be enough to entice Landry to change his favorite color from nautical aqua and orange to New York Jets green.
