The New York Jets are on the verge of building a winning team, and they need to do it right, otherwise it will end in utter disaster again.

To be frank the Jets have been known for two things. They have either not gotten the quarterback right (which is what they’re most know for), or when they do, they’re terribly unlucky and beset by injury (see Brett Favre and Vinny Testaverde).

The Jets were on of the NFL’s laughingstocks coming into the season. It was so much so that some pundits were even proclaiming the Jets were going to finish the season 0-16.

NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah even tweeted that one NFL executive told him that it’s the worst roster that he had seen in a decade.

Both of those have proven to be wrong, since the roster is performing above expectations, and the team is 4-6. They may not make the playoffs this season, but they have sown the seeds of winning, and the young players now know what it takes to win.

That’s not enough though. The organization now must continue the winning ways by doing the right things when the offseason rolls around. Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles must continue the building process toward the playoffs and playing in February.

The Jets need to avoid the mistakes that could set this team back and cost two men their jobs. That’s correct. If the team fails, both Maccagnan and Bowles deserve to be fired. They’re a package deal.

Here are the mistakes the Jets must avoid in 2018.
