The New York Jets come off their bye week to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 12. Here are three players that have been disappointing so far.

Now that the bye week has come and gone for the 4-6 New York Jets, it’s time to take a look at their three most disappointing players entering Sunday’s battle with the Carolina Panthers at MetLife Stadium.

Although it’s safe to say that Gang Green has overachieved so far this season, this trio of performers have not lived up to expectations entering Week 12.

3. Bilal Powell

After finishing the 2016 campaign with 722 rushing yards (5.5 yards per game), this Jet has been stuck on the runway for most of this season. The University of Louisville product was expected to take over the lead halfback role this year but he is averaging just 4.5 yards per carry. Powell did have one stellar outing against Jacksonville (190 yards from scrimmage) but aside from that his top effort was 83 total yards against Miami in Week 7.

After finishing fourth among running backs in receptions (58) in 2016, the 29-year old Powell is on pace for only 34 catches this season. He has been bothered by a strained calf from time to time and missed Week Six when the Jets fell to the Patriots, 24-17. The offensive line has had issues this season at the point of attack but overall Powell was expected to do more, especially in the passing game. He needs to be utilized more via screen and dump off passes where he is most effective. New York needs to get Powell out in open space.

If the Jets are to make a playoff push despite tough odds, Powell has to resemble the 2016 version instead of this season’s version that appears to be past his prime.
